Council tax valuation bands

What valuation band is my property in?

There are 8 valuation bands. Each property is placed into one of these bands by the Valuation Office Agency.

It is important to remember that these bandings relate to value of a property on the open market on 1 April 1991 and not to current property prices.

A£40,000 or less
B£40,001 to £52,000
C£52,001 to £68,000
D£68,001 to £88,000
E£88,001 to £120,000
F£120,001 to £160,000
G£160,001 to £320,000
H£320,001 or more

If a new property is banded for council tax the Valuation Office Agency will work out what its value would have been in 1991.

You can find out the council tax valuation band for a property by checking the Valuation office agency website.

If you disagree with the valuation band your property has been placed in there is a right of appeal.
