The Day Service
The Day Service supports people with a learning and/or physical disability living across the borough of Bury. We take a 'person centred' approach by supporting people to develop the skills and knowledge they need to express themselves as a unique individual and feel confident and competent within their local community. We support people to develop life skills that include relationship building and community inclusion so that they can make choices and be in control of decisions that affect their lives. We strive to support people towards independence in as many areas of their life as possible, helping them to explore life's opportunities and access pathways to leisure activities, health services, community resources, education and employment. The Day Service also endeavours to support families and carers in their caring role by offering advice, practical support and respite breaks away from their caring responsibilities during the daytime.

Our services
The Day Service currently operate services via 2 large day centres, 3 core bases, 8 outreach groups and 1 Volunteering Project, although some of these bases will change in the future as we work to develop and improve our service. We are committed to practicing and promoting community cohesion and integration, and are working to operate all of our services from facilities that are shared with others including public libraries, community centres and church halls, working to tackle inequality and overcome the barriers faced by people with disabilities. This in turn also serves to increase the awareness and knowledge of wider communities in relation to the issues faced by people with disabilities and how they can help prevent exclusion and discrimination.
We currently operate our service from bases across the borough, details of which can be found below:

The Day Service can offer support to adults aged 18 an over with a learning and/or physical disability who have been identified as eligible to receive a service under the FACS (Fair Access to Services) criteria, and have had a social care assessment that demonstrates support from the Day Service is required.
For those adults with a learning and/or physical disability who do not meet the FACS eligibility criteria, we may be able to provide support in other ways by signposting people to other more appropriate organisations or offering information and advice about alternative services that are available in the borough.
