Requesting extra bins

About requesting extra recycling bins

We need you to be able to recycle 50% or more of your household waste.  If you don't have enough space in your blue or green recycling bins after squashing or flattening your items you can request an extra bin which we will provide free of charge to help you recycle more.    See the right hand navigation for links to these forms.  At the present time we only provide one brown recycling bin per household.

About requesting an extra grey rubbish bin

If you are a family of six or more, you may be able to have a second grey bin.  You will need to apply and provide proof of the number of people living at your address throughout the year and also prove that you recycle as much as you can.  We may visit you to examine the contents of your bins and offer help and advice on how you can better manage your waste.

If your application is successful you will be required to pay a £25 administration and delivery charge for your second grey bin.  Authorised extra grey bins are 140 litres in size (slightly smaller than a standard bin) and are supplied with a red lid so that the bin can be easily identified.

To make a request for an extra grey bin please complete our online form available from the right-hand navigation.

After submitting your request we will write to you and send you the full application form which you should complete and return together with proof of residency.

How to save space in your grey bin

We will empty your grey bin once every two weeks.  Inbetween collections you will need to make sure you save as much space as possible in your grey bin.

  • Only use your grey bin for waste that cannot be recycled.
  • Try to flatten or squash your rubbish.
  • Squeeze air out of plastic bags.
  • If you have young children, consider using real nappies instead of disposable ones.
