Online Reference Library

The Internet is the go-to place to find information, but sometimes it is not easy to find the information that you were looking for. When you do actually find the answer to your question, how do you know that your information is correct? One way is to go to an information provider that you can trust. Bury Library Service subscribes to a number of online information services so that you as a member can have free access to high quality information online. Many of these information providers have been producing high quality information resources.long before the internet was invented.

Resources

• Ancestry library edition - only accessible from within the libraries

  Ancestry is one of the best sources family history information, with access to census returns and indexes of births, marriages and deaths.

• Britannica Online (junior, student and 18+ editions)

  Access to the full Encyclopaedia Britannica as well as access to dedicated junior and student versions and magazine and journal articles. Library members can access this from home.

• FAME - Financial Analysis Made Easy - only accessible from within the libraries

  Company information for UK and Ireland covering 3.4 million companies, with detailed financial information for 2.4 million of these.

• Find My Past - only accessible from within the libraries

  Find My Past complements Ancestry.lib and offers a range of historical information to help with family history and other historical research. Like Ancestry.lib we offer free access to this resource at all Bury Council libraries.

• GoCitizen.co.uk

  The online study resource for the British Citizenship Test. Library members can access this from home.

• Oxford Art Online

  Online database of art and artists including, Grove art online, The Oxford companion to western art, Encyclopedia of aesthetics, The concise Oxford dictionary of art terms

• Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

  An illustrated collection of more than 57,000 biographies of the men and women from around the world who shaped all aspects of Britain's past.

• Oxford English Dictionary

  The definitive record of the English Language

• Oxford Music Online

  Online database of music and musicians including, Grove music online, The Oxford dictionary of music, Encyclopedia of popular music, The Oxford companion to music.

• Oxford Reference Online

  Online resource searching dictionaries and encyclopedias published by Oxford University Press

• People's Network Enquire

  Ask a librarian for the answer with this 24 hour live chat service bought to you by the peoples network. Anyone can access this service from home.

• Theory Test Pro

  The online study resource for the UK's driving theory tests, covers cars, motorbikes, HGV and PSV tests.

• UK Newsstand - newspapers and magazines online

  Newspapers and magazines online. Access to articles from the leading national and regional daily newspapers, as well as news magazines. Library members can access this from home.
