Why do we need a walking programme?
It's a fact that most of us are not as active as we should be. Obesity levels among the population are increasing at an alarming rate. It is clear that some action needs to be taken to improve the health and fitness of us all. Walking is a simple, gentle form of exercise that can be done virtually anywhere and anytime. Walking is probably the easiest and most beneficial form of exercise there is. It is free to do, and most people can walk at least a short distance.
What are the benefits of walking?
Walking is such a good form of exercise because:
- An extra 20 minutes a day can burn off an extra 7 pounds of body fat per year.
- It can lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
- It can help relieve stress.
- Strengthens the muscles in your hips and torso.
- Helps the environment if you are walking instead of using a motor vehicle.
- Gives you time to think and helps increase problem solving ability.
- Improves your posture.
