Swimfit is a tailored swim training programme launched by the Amateur Swimming Association in partnership with British Gas. The aim of the programme is to help you exercise the whole of your body and structure your time in the pool - whether you're looking to keep healthy, shape and tone, improve your fitness or get competitive. The programme also allows you to set your own goals, record your progress and puts you in touch with coaches to ask any questions that you may have.
How can I join in with Swimfit?
You can join in with Swimfit at Castle Leisure Centre, Bolton Street, Bury.
Swimfit programme cards will be available on poolside during all public swimming sessions and some sessions will be instructor-led.
Hints and tips on getting started
- Take a friend - this will help you feel and stay more motivated.
- Practice breathing - Having smooth, regulated breathing will help you to achieve your potential as a swimmer.
- Breath regularly - this will help you to keep going for longer (you should always breath out while your face is in the water).
- Vary what you do in the pool - using different strokes uses different muscles and therefore gives you a better all round work out.
- Build up gradually - always increase the intensity and length of your workouts steadily, this will ensure that you don't push yourself too far.
