Breaks for carers of people with mental health problems

Types of Support Provided

The allowance of a financial contribution to a maximum of £200 for carers of people with Mental Health problems to allow carers to have a break with the person they care for and / or allow the carer to have a break away. Additional funding has also been allocated to Making Space for specific carer breaks throughout the year - no client contribution is required.

Who is the Service for?

The Community Mental Health Team funding of the service is for carers of adults with Mental Health problems. The Making Space scheme is for carers, caring for an Adult over 18 with Mental Health problems and will include specific workshops to address identified areas.

Criteria for and how to access the service

Carers will need to request a carer's assessment, which should identify the "Break needs" of the carer. Referrals should be made via Social Workers or Social Care Officers to the Mental Health Team Manager for approval or direct to Making Space.
