Bury Gateway Juniors: Wednesday's 3.30pm-5.30pm
Bury Gateway has been working with people with learning disabilities and striving to make a difference in their lives for over 25 years. A little over 2 years ago the Bury Gateway Juniors was established with the aim of offering children from the ages of 8-14 years a fun, stimulating and most of all safe environment in which to relax and play. It also gives the parents and carers of children with learning disabilities the opportunity of some respite. Originally held on Monday evenings it has since been re-launched on Wednesday's after-school where it has gone from strength to strength with attendances having nearly doubled. It allows the children to make new friends, share their experiences and utilise the range of activities that are on offer. From sports to arts and craft, the Juniors aims to give children the opportunity to get involved in activities that they may otherwise be unable to do.
Bury Gateway Meaningful Short Breaks: Thursday's 4.00pm-7.00pm
Meaningful Short Breaks was formed by Bury Gateway initially to give those parents with young people with learning disabilities from the ages of 13-18 a respite break. The club meets every Thursday with members usually being dropped off from school and runs until 7.00pm, in which time the children are provided with a light meal, the opportunity to socialise with new and existing friends as well as getting involved in activities that they may otherwise be unable to. We aim to offer an after school club that will provide a range of activities to enjoy that are suited to their individual needs.
