Prestwich Forest Park

Prestwich Forest Park is the collective name for a group of publically-owned sites being developed for informal recreation in and around the Irwell Valley in Prestwich. It includes:

  • Philips Park,
  • Waterdale,
  • Mere Clough,
  • Prestwich Clough,
  • the former Prestwich Sewage Works, and
  • Drinkwater Park.

As a development of their Newlands project on the Salford side of the river, the Forestry Commission are taking on the management of several sites in Bury. It could be that LIVIA will become the core of the proposed Croal Irwell Regaional Park. This is even more likely if links with Clifton Country Park and the proposed Newlands / Rhodes Farm are improved.

Philips Park is also a Nature Reserve, containing the renovated Philips Park Barn, home of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, which has been established as a major environmental education and countryside centre serving the whole borough.
