Young carers

Young carers – support and advice Young carers are children and young people under the age of 18 years who provide care to another family member who has a physical illness or disability, mental health, sensory disability or has a problematic use of drugs or alcohol.

The level of care they provide would usually be undertaken by an adult and as a result of this it has a significant impact on their normal childhood.

The Bury Young Carers service (BYC) offers information, support and advice on issues relating to young carers who are looking after a parent or guardian who is disabled, has a mental health issue or has a problematic use of drugs or alcohol. They offer one to one and group support and activities for young people aged 7-18 years old.

Referral to the service can be done by a worker, family members or a self referral. Please contact BYC for more details or support on how to refer.
