The Rock, Bury

The Rock shopping and leisure development officially opened its doors on Friday 16 July 2010. The £350 million scheme is home to two Department Stores - Debenhams and M&S, along with 60 other shops, a 10 screen cinema, 10 pin bowling, a number of restaurants and a 1250 space multi-storey car park.

Background information

We have been working closely with development partners on the proposals for the development of The Rock for about five years. Prior to any planning applications being submitted a Development Framework was written for the site.

The Rock Triangle Development Framework

The Rock Triangle site was identified as a potential extension to the town centre in the Bury But Better Strategy (2003). The developers of The Rock produced a Development Framework for the site in 2002. The Framework was amended in 2005 following the Bury But Better Strategy recommendations.
