How to repay a housing benefit overpayment

If you want to make a payment

You can make a payment on line.

You can make payments by telephone by contacting our automated payment system: 0845 305 2197

If you are unable to repay you overpayment in full

Please contact the Overpayment Team on 0161 253 7435 to make an instalment arrangement.

The Overpayment Team will set up an agreement with you and they can issue you:

  • an instalment card
  • a Standing Order mandate
  • a Post Office and Paypoint Card

You can chose which type of payment plan will be most convenient for you.

Instalment card

This will allow you to pay your instalments at any Bury Council Payment Offices

Standing Order mandate

We can arrange for your bank or building society to pay us directly. We will send you a form to complete with the details of your account. You will then need to send this to your bank or building society. They will then send payment to us on the agreed dates.

Post Office and Paypoint card

This will allow you to make payments at any Post Office or any Paypoint outlet.

If you are having difficulty keeping to your instalment arrangement, we may be able to reduce your payments.
