How is your council tax worked out?

The amount of your council tax depends on:

  • which valuation band your property falls into. Find out more about valuation bands.
  • how much money is needed to pay for the services the Council provides and its contributions to the Police and Fire services.
  • the number of properties in the borough - this changes due to new properties being built, and others being demolished

The council tax charge is set every year, as part of the Council Budget in February.
