Get involved

We promote a range of different ways in which you can get involved with the Countryside Service. These are detailed below.

Voluntary Ranger Service

The Voluntary Ranger Service is a partnership between the three Local Authorities of Bury, Bolton and Salford. Within each authority the ranger team works closely alongside volunteers offering a range of practical conservation tasks, site maintenance activities and patrols.

We also offer a high quality basic training course which includes Navigation, Countryside Law, Health & Safety, Emergency First Aid and Dealing with Incidents and Emergencies.

The Voluntary Ranger Service is open to anyone aged over 18 years, who can commit to a minimum of one duty a month.

Countryside task days

The countryside rangers organise regular task days where anyone can join in to help maintain and conserve the park. These include bulb planting, hedgelaying and vegetation clearance.

Visit our online events guide and select "volunteering" from the dropdown menu to find out when the next event is.

Friends of Burrs

Visit the Friends of Burrs web page to find out when the meetings take place and to view the minutes of the previous meeting.
