Sports centre policies

The following policies are in place at our sports centres.

  • Swimming pools admission policy.
  • Toning studio admissions and booking policy.

About the swimming pools admission policy

Our swimming pools policy is designed to keep you and your child or children safe when swimming.

The policy is in operation at Bury Leisure pools at:

  • Castle Leisure Centre, Bury;
  • Radcliffe Leisure Centre; and
  • Ramsbottom Pool and Fitness Centre.

The swimming pools admission policy

In accordance with the Institute of Sport and Recreation Management (ISRM) Guidelines and our own risk assessment we enforce the following policy.

Definition of an adult

For the purpose of this policy an adult must be a responsible person, who is at least 16 years of age and can provide proof of their age if requested by a representative of Bury Leisure.

Adult responsibility:

One responsible adult can be responsible for a maximum of two children aged 10 and under, unless the children are aged over 8 and able to swim a minimum of 100 metres.

The responsible adult must go into the water with the children they are responsible for and should maintain close and constant supervision over them, especially if the children are weak or non-swimmers.

The responsible adult should make sure that weak or non-swimmers are restricted to either the teaching pool or the designated shallow end of the main pool.

The responsible adult should ensure weak or non-swimmers wear approved swimming aids, such as arm bands.

All swimmers' responsibility:

All swimmers should always swim within their own abilities and are requested to inform the Duty Manager of any specialist assistance they may require in advance of entering the pool.

All swimmers must inform a lifeguard if they suffer from any illness or disability which may affect their ability to swim.

All swimmers should ensure that they are aware of the pool depth along its length.
