If you want to get rid of bulky items that can no longer be used, contact us to arrange a bulky household waste collection  (see 'Contact Waste Management Service onlin' at the top right of this web page).  Collection charges are on a sliding scale according to how many items are collected. Full details are provided below.

What are the charges?

Charges in Bury are comparable with charges elsewhere and are on a sliding scale according to how many items are collected.

The charges are as follows.

  • £15 for up to three items; plus
  • £5 for each additional item.

Payment will need to be made in full in advance of the arranged collection.

Are there any exemptions from the charges?

Residents in receipt of Council Tax benefit can request an exemption from the charges for one free collection per year. Please note that this free collection is for a maximum of three items.

When do you collect?

We carry out bulky waste collections on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  We organise our collections on an area basis so which day we can collect from you will depend on which area you live in and what other collections we have booked in.

To arrange a collection of bulky household items you need to Report a Problem or Contact Waste Management Service Online for both select Bulky Household Waste. What is bulky household waste?

Examples of bulky household waste items include three piece suites, bathroom suites, small units, tables, carpets, beds, wardrobes, chests of drawers, bookcases, microwaves, cookers, stereos, dining tables and chairs, barbecues, electric heaters, computer equipment including monitors, bikes, lightweight garden furniture and all electrical white goods (for example, fridges and washers).

What items cannot be collected?

The types of things we cannot take are kitchen units, doors, window frames, garages, sheds, sunbeds and florescent tubes. These items can be taken to a Household Waste Recycling Centre.
