If you require to make a weighbridge available for public use, whether a fee is charged or not, there are certain requirements.
The person(s) operating the weighbridge must apply to the Local Authority for a certificate of competency. A Trading Standards inspector will visit the operator and assess by a written test whether the operator is competent to operate a public weighbridge. At that time the duties and responsibilities which are attached to that position will be explained and confirmed in writing. A fee will be charged in line with the hourly rate charged for a trading standards officer.
