We have a legal duty to enforce the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 and the laws associated with it.

We ensure that all food and drink intended for human consumption by Bury's food businesses is produced, stored and handled without risk to the health and safety of the consumer.

We:

  • proactively inspect Bury's food businesses to ensure compliance with the law;
  • use educational techniques as well as legal means to achieve compliance;
  • investigate complaints about food premises;
  • investigate notifications of possible food poisoning;
  • action food hazard warnings reported to us by the Food Standards Agency;
  • give advice to customers and all stakeholders on food issues; and
  • work with other health professionals locally and nationally.

We will:

  • carry out regular and usually unannounced inspections of food premises;
  • investigate suspected food poisoning notifications within three working days of being notified;
  • respond to food complaints and complaints about food premises within three working days;
  • respond to requests for advice or information about food issues within three working days;
  • respond to letters or e-mails about food issues; and
  • keep you fully informed of the progress made with your enquiry or complaint.
