About your blue bin

We will empty your blue bin once every four weeks.  Please make sure you leave your bin out by 7am on collection day as collection times can vary.

What you can recycle in your blue bin

• Glass bottles and jars.
• Plastic bottles.
• Aluminium and steel food and drink cans.
• Empty aerosol cans.
• Clean aluminium foil.

We don't want:

• plastic yogurt pots;
• plastic margarine containers;
• plastic food trays; or
• plastic bags.

Don't forget:

• wash or rinse your items;
• remove tops, caps and lids; and
• squash plastic bottles or crush cans to make more space in your bin.  

Your questions answered

I don't have a blue recycling bin, can I have one?

Yes.  If your household doesn't yet have a blue recycling bin you should request one so that you can recycle more of your household waste. All you need to do is complete and submit our online request form.  To submit your request online, please see the link in the right-hand navigation.

What will happen if I put the wrong items in my blue bin?

We won't be able to empty your blue bin if it contains items that we haven't asked you to recycle.  Please only recycle the items listed above. 

Why can't I recycle all items that have a recycling logo?

We can only collect items that are accepted by the recycling centre that we use.  These are the items listed at the top of this web page.

Why do you want me to rinse or wash my recycling items?

We recommend that you rinse or wash your recycling items to avoid attracting wasps, ants or other insects.

I think my blue bin is too big, can I have a smaller one?

We do want most people to use a full-size blue bin because we empty blue bins once every four weeks.  However, we will provide a smaller bin if this is absolutely essential. 

Can I have an extra blue recycling bin?

We provide extra recycling bins free of charge. If you find that you don't have enough room in your blue recycling bin after squashing or flattening your items, you can contact us to request an extra bin.   All you need to do is complete and submit our online request form. We will then contact you to discuss your request. If your request is approved we will deliver your extra bin to your home within 10 working days.  To submit your request online, please see the link in the right-hand navigation.
