Closed circuit television in Bury
Closed circuit television has become an increasingly popular deterrent against crime for many years and is a common site in shopping centres and car parks throughout the country.
Public area CCTV in Bury town centre is operated by the 24 hour control room in the Millgate shopping centre, which has access to police, Community Safety Wardens and shops via the shop link radio and the 'Nitenet' radio system linking pubs and clubs.
The public area CCTV systems at Radcliffe and Prestwich are operated directly from the council's 24 hour Emergency Control Room. In addition, advanced technology CCTV systems are now being deployed at schools and other council buildings and are used with intruder alarms to detect unauthorised access to premises and grounds.
A mobile CCTV system is also available for use, in partnership with the police, in 'hotspots' to gather evidence and detect offences.
The Council and its employees operate a strict privacy policy to protect members of the public going about their lawful business and conform to the provisions of the Data Protection Act.
