Prestwich centre facilities

Prestwich Library and Adult Learning Centre offers a full and comprehensive library service, with access to an array of items to borrow including books and DVDs. Free internet access is available using our public access computers. Booking in advance is advisable. Please note that all public access computers shut down 15 minutes before library closing time. There are photocopying and FAX facilities. We also stock national daily and weekly local newspapers and a selection of magazines, University prospectuses, careers information and sell book tokens and local publications.

There are various sized meeting room facilities which are available to hire. For further information please contact 0161 253 7214.

  • Story Time sessions for preschool children -Thursday 10.45am to 11.30am, term time only. 
  • Reading Groups - Please enquire for further details.
  • Guitar group - Every Saturday between 10-12pm.
  • Family history for beginners one off session - Please enquire to book.
  • Prestwich Art Society - Every Sunday 10-12pm.
  • Overeaters anonymous - Every Sunday 10.30am onwards.

Adult Learning

There are various courses now running in the three classrooms at Prestwich Library and Adult Learning Centre. Prospective students can enrol by telephone or in person at any of the Bury Adult Learning centres. Courses are available to suit a variety of interests.

Local history publications for sale Prestwich Heritage Museum

The current exhibition is entitled "Prestwich and the Great War". It commemorates the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the war and includes objects and images relating to local servicemen, the local Military Hospitals, and Heaton Park that was used as a training camp for new recruits and subsequently as a convalescence camp. The display also highlights the aftermath of the conflict and acts of commemoration.

The exhibition will run throughout 2014 and is accessible on the first floor during Lib opening hours.

Prestwich Library and Adult Learning Centre is a Council Information Point - bringing council services closer to home.

Car parking

Free parking is available on Fairfax Road and the Longfield main car park after 9.30am.
