Bury to Bolton (A58) consultation

The Quality Bus Corridor initiative forms part of the Integrate Project which seeks to bring about improvements to public transport. The Northern Orbital Quality Bus Corridor encompasses the North Manchester orbital routes linking Bolton, Bury, Heywood, Rochdale, Littleborough via the A58 and the radial route connecting Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton to Manchester City Centre via the A6046.
You may remember that in 2004 we carried out a number of consultations to find out what you thought about travel along the A58 Bolton Road and how it could be improved. During the first consultation the main travel related problems you raised were congestion, volume of traffic and late running buses. Following the last consultation it was agreed that in response to these problems and your other comments we would introduce:
  • A bus lane on Bolton Road for buses travelling into Bury.
  • New pedestrian crossings and traffic lights at the junction of Bolton Road/ Ainsworth Road.
  • A new pedestrian island to be introduced near the Wellington Pub on Bolton Road.
