What is landlord accreditation?
Bury Landlord Accreditation Scheme (BLAS) is a FREE service which has been set up to recognise and reward private landlords who manage and maintain their properties to a high standard. Standards for accreditation are set out in the scheme's Code of Standards and Management Practice.
The Code has been developed by A&List (Authorities and Landlords Improving Standards Together), a private rented partnership of local authorities and landlord associations and AGMA (Association of Greater Manchester Authorities) to provide a uniform approach to accreditation across the region.
What are the benefits for landlords?
By taking part in the scheme, landlords can access a number of FREE services including:
- a comprehensive landlord handbook and welcome pack
- advice and support on tenancy issues including antisocial behaviour
- a property assessment with advice on fire safety and energy efficiency
- access to our rental bond service
- a certificate for each accredited property and use of the scheme logo
- free property advertising on our website
- quarterly landlord forums and newsletters
- standard documents, including a sample tenancy agreement
- improved communication with council officers, including Environmental Health and Housing Benefits
- Bury Council's Registered Tradesman list
- a Jewson discount card
How do I apply?
Joining BLAS is straightforward. You can obtain an application pack either by contacting the Accreditation Co-ordinator or downloading a form and Code of Standards from this page.
In the application form, you will be asked to list all the properties that you currently own and provide the following documents.
- A current Gas Safety Certificate for each property
- An Energy Performance Certificate for each property if the tenancy started after 1 October 2008, if not within the first term of membership (5 years)
- A sample tenancy agreement that you normally use
- An Electrical Periodic Inspection Report (if not currently available, within the first term of membership i.e. 5 years)
Once we have received your completed application form and supporting documents, we will arrange for your property to be inspected.
If your property is tenanted, it is important to let your tenants know why their home is being inspected and we have a leaflet specifically aimed at tenants to help you do this.
If there are any repairs that you need to do to bring your property up to accreditation standard, we will let you know, giving a reasonable timescale during which the work should be done.
On meeting the conditions of membership, you will receive a certificate for each property and your welcome pack. We will also keep you updated on incentives, as well as providing you with a wide range of information and services tailored to you needs.
