Children missing education

The DCSF strategic framework published in 2002 placed a requirement on Local Authorities to have robust multi-agency systems in place to identify and track children missing education, or at risk of doing so, by the end of 2005. The 2006 education bill places a statutory duty on Authorities to identify and track children missing education or in danger of doing so.

Bury's children missing education policy is intended to:-

  • inform services and agencies about their role in assisting to identify children missing education;
  • raise awareness of the notification process, ensuring it is widely accessible and
    easy to use;
  • explain how children will be tracked/monitored until they are re-engaged in education;
  • explain the mechanisms available to access appropriate educational provision;
  • ensure clarity to stakeholders as to how children can be tracked across boundaries when a child moves to another local authority.

If anyone has information that a child may not be in education, contact the School Attendance Team.
