Bury Compact
What is the Bury Compact?
The Compact is a written agreement between the voluntary and community sector and Bury Council and our partners to improve and enhance working relationships thus making them more effective. It sets out the shared principles and commitments that will underpin our relationship and provides a framework for a new approach to partnership to guide our work together. It:
- helps us understand and value the roles, nature and contribution of different kinds of organisations;
- has undertakings on both sides and mechanisms to make sure it works;
- sets standards for communication, consultation and support; and
- provides a practical tool to help us work together in partnership.
The Compact is for all voluntary and community organisations, no matter how small and for other public sector bodies, such as the Police, the PCT, Bury College and others. Therefore all organisations have much to gain from the Compact as it provides an open, clear and accountable framework to work to serve the interests of local people and communities.
The Compact also provides an opportunity to develop local Codes of Practice (following central Government's example) on a range of issues that are important to the voluntary and community sector, such as, funding; consultation and communication; volunteering, black and ethnic minority groups; community development and community groups, amongst others.
