The Housing Options Team can give you free, confidential help and advice on all housing matters.
We work closely with other services within the Council and other organisations to help people with their housing problems.

We will do everything we can to prevent you from losing your home or help you to find a new one. our Housing Options Officers will listen carefully to your enquiries and discuss appropriate solutions to help you.
The sooner you come and see us the better.

The Housing Options Team can help you with the following:
Staying in your current home
Our Housing Options Officers can use a wide range of solutions to help you stay in your home. These include:
- Negotiating with landlords to prevent eviction and resolve other problems
- Working with landlords to try and sort out any rent arrears issues
- Getting bailiff warrants suspended
- Maximising benefits including Housing benefit
- Talking with family or friends to plan a rehousing solution
- Getting support to enable families to stay in their homes
- Helping owner-occupiers remain in their homes
- Giving advice to people who are worried about their mortgage
- Help with applying for government schemes like the Mortgage Rescue Scheme
Finding you a place to live
Whatever your situation, we can help you find a place to live. Things we can do include:
- Applying for Registered Social Landlord (RSL) properties through Choice Based Lettings Service on the Bury Home Options website
- Finding out about obtaining a private tenancy
- Finding an available accredited property to let
- Provide a list of landlord and agents who may have available accredited properties let
- provide information on other available private landlord properties
We operate a bond scheme and can help guide you through the application process. Our Private Rented Sector Team can help you deal with your landlord and mediate in any dispute.
Preventing you from becoming homeless

If this is the case, you should contact the Housing Options Team as soon as possible, as we will do everything possible to keep you in your home or find you somewhere else to live if there is no other solution.
If you are having housing problems, are threatened with losing your home or have no where to live you should contact us for help as soon as possible. having nowhere to live and being homeless can have a severe effect on those who experience it and it is no-ones interest for you to become homeless.
