Rate Books and Valuation Lists

The following list of rates and valuations are original records held at Bury Archives. The list does not distinguish between valuation lists, poor rate or general rate books. The list is arranged by the administrative body / districts (with 3 letter Archives reference code) responsible for the collection of rates in a specific area of what is now Bury MBC. All the rate books are described on our online catalogue.

In many cases gaps in records are due to wartime destruction for paper salvage, but it is still possible that further records may come to light in future.

Even before the demise of the Bury RDC, the Borough had extended its boundaries to include portions of neighbouring townships; records for these portions and for the township of Elton, which was completely absorbed after 1894, are included in this list.
