What is the Library Catalogue?

When using the Library Catalogue you can search for materials by keyword, author, title, subject and shelf mark. For each item in the catalogue you will find its location, availability, shelf mark and bibliographical information such as when and where it was published.

How to set up a password for your library account

This method is for those logging into their Library Account for the first time and who do not already have a Library Account password setup.

  1. Go to the library account log in page.
  2. If you have not set up a password previously then just enter your name and your library card number (barcode) and press the 'submit' button.
  3. You will then be prompted to re-enter your name and library card number.
  4. You then need to set up a password - this needs to be more than 6 characters long.
  5. And then you need to repeat the password.
  6. Press the 'submit' button again and you should go straight into your account.

How to log into your library account

  1. Go to the library account log in page.
  2. Enter your name, library card number (barcode), password and press the 'submit' button.
  3. You should now see your account details such as your name and address so you know you have logged in correctly.
  4. Always remember to log out when you have finished.

How to reset your library account password

If you have registered your email address on your library account then you can use the following procedure to reset your password. If not then you need to contact your local library to have your password reset and to get your email address added to your account.

  1. Go to the password reset page.
  2. You will then be prompted to enter your name and your library card number (barcode) and then click the 'submit' button.
  3. The system will then send an email to your email account containing a link which you need to click on to reset your password.
  4. You will then be prompted to enter your name, your library card number (barcode) and  your new password. Then click on the 'submit' button and your password will have been changed.

How to renew books on your Library Account

If you are able to log into your Library Account then you may renew your own items online.

  1. Go to the library account log in page and log in to your account.
  2. Select the books you want to renew by ticking the checkbox to the left of the title of each book.
  3. Click on the 'renew marked' button.
  4. Confirm that you would like to proceed by clicking on the 'yes' button.
  5. Always remember to log out when you are finished.

Note: You cannot:

  • Renew books that have holds or reservations on them - please return these so the next person in the queue can borrow them.
  • Renew books that you have just borrowed today (there is no point).
  • Renew items that the library charges for such as DVD's, CD's, talking books etc.
  • Renew books when you owe more than £5.00.
  • Renew books when the system is running a backup (these run from 3am to 3.30am every night and between 8am and 8.30am on a Monday morning).

How to request items on your Library Account

If you are able to log into your library account then you may request items online.

  1. Search for the item that you want to borrow.
  2. It is best that you look at the full record for the item to make sure it is the item you want to borrow.
  3. Click on the 'request' button.
  4. Next you need to log into your library account on the library catalogue.
  5. Once logged in you are then taken to the request verification page where you need to click on the 'submit' button to finish requesting the item.
  6. Click on the 'start over' button to go to the main library catalogue page.
  7. You are still logged into your account so you can request more items if needed.
  8. Always remember to log out when you have finished.
