This active travel scheme has been designed together with the community, to provide the best quality scheme for residents.

There are two phases to the scheme.  Phase one is nearing completion and phase two begins during November 2025.

The scheme will improve connectivity to Bury town centre and other local facilities, making it safer and easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle for local journeys.

This will allow people to reduce car trips and choose healthier, greener ways to travel.

When the scheme will start and end

The scheme will take approximately 13 months to complete, subject to weather conditions and other operational issues.

  • Scheme start: Autumn 2025
  • Scheme end: Winter 2026

Project funding

As part of the Bee Network, this £5.7 million scheme is funded from UK Government’s City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) and the Mayor’s Challenge Fund.

The scheme design

The scheme design consists of a wide range of features that will improve safety and encourage people to walk, wheel or cycle. Work will involve:

  • Upgrading existing junctions
  • Creating new crossing points
  • Introducing traffic calming measures

What to expect during the works

As the scheme involves working in the road, there will be some unavoidable temporary disruption, such as:

  • Alternative pedestrian routes and crossings
  • Temporary traffic lights due to lane closures
  • Diversion routes due to essential road closures

Working hours

  • Generally, 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with any work outside of these hours only if needed

Noise

  • Any noisy works won’t start before 8am

Work programme

The work programme is split into 12 individual projects, each focussed on specific roads and streets within the Fishpool and Pimhole areas.

  • Details for each of the 12 projects are provided below.

Please note:

To keep the community informed about when work will begin at each of the project areas, advance warning signs will be placed at the roadside shortly before work is scheduled to start.

November to December 2025

January and February 2026

March 2026 onwards
