Education is the future of our community and therefore one of Bury council's most significant areas of work. Bury council provides education for nursery, primary and secondary school pupils, special school pupils, pupils excluded from mainstream schools and education for adults. Learning is at the heart of our community.
These education and learning pages have been designed to provide information and to help to answer any questions you may have about education in Bury.

Primary strategy for change
Consultation on the draft strategy has now closed.
The Future of Primary Learning in Bury:
The Government has launched the Primary Capital Programme which is a major initiative to see the renewal or refurbishment of around half of primary schools across the country by 2022. In order to respond to the initiative, and to secure investment, each authority must produce a strategy for change, which sets out their vision for the future of learning in primary schools. During April and May 2008 we have consulted with all key stakeholders on our draft Primary Strategy for Change. The draft Strategy document was refined and improved in response to the consultation and was approved by the Executive Committee at its meeting on 11th June 2008. The finalised Strategy document has now been submitted to the DCSF, and can be viewed via the following link: Primary Strategy for Change (159Kb 22 page pdf)
The outcome of the assessment process was notified to local authorities on the 11th November 2008. Bury's Strategy was approved subject to modification. As a result funding of £3m for the financial year 2009/10 was confirmed, but the release of subsequent years' funding was subject to satisfactory modifications being made to the Strategy. The modified Strategy must be resubmitted to DCSF by 31st March 2009 and will be presented to the Executive Committee for approval at its meeting on 18th March 2009. The report to Executive and the modified Strategy can be viewed via the following link:
