Bury Smart Assessment

Assessing driving ability

Bury Smart Assessment is a one hour assessment of a person's ability to drive safely and competently.  The assessment is run by Bury Road Safety Unit.

Both council and company drivers (whether car, van or LGV) as well as individuals can apply for the assessment.  Company vehicle drivers have the option of using their own fleet vehicle.

The assessment is ideal for any manager who wishes to assess their staff's driving ability either in their own or company vehicle.

Completing the assessment will:

  • highlight driving skills that need updating;
  • provide information to support driver competence when completing a Occupational Road Risk Assessment for staff who drive their own or a council vehicle as part of their work; and
  • recommend control measures for highlighted risks.

The driver and departmental manager will receive a written report of the assessment with highlighted risks if any, with recommended control measures.
