Reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour
At the Community Safety Team, we will take all complaints of anti-social behaviour seriously and work with other agencies where necessary to resolve your complaint as quickly and effectively as possible.
- Report it!
When you report an incident of anti-social behaviour, we will need to talk to you before we start an investigation.
- What happens next
We will ask you about the exact nature and details of the anti-social behaviour and how it has affected you. We may make this into a written statement, open up a case and decide together on a plan to deal with the problem.
- What we need from you
Once you've reported it to us, your help will still be required in resolving the complaint. You will be advised to keep a record of incident details on a diary sheet which we can use as evidence if we take legal action against the individuals concerned. Other evidence such as photographs, video and tape recordings may also be required. We can help you with this but if an incident happens suddenly, you are often the best person to record it.
- What we will do
We will keep in regular contact with you to monitor the perpetrator's behaviour and keep you informed of what we are doing to resolve the problem. Most complaints can be resolved with informal action such as warning the perpetrators in writing or face to face. We will inform you of timing and outcome of warnings interviews.
- Sharing information
Depending upon the nature of the case, we may consult with other Agencies such as the Police, Six Town Housing, YOT, Education or Social Services. This is particuarly important if the perpetrator is under 18 or has support needs. Before we decide to proceed with an ASBO application, a formal case conference between concerned agencies is required.
- Being a witness
If the anti-social behaviour continues or is particuarly threatening or violent, we can take legal action against the perpetrator. In this case, we may also ask you to act as a witness. We will always fully support and inform witnesses before, during and after legal action.
