Play scheme guidance notes

Registration:  Only children for whom registration forms have been filled in may attend.  All children must be signed in each day.

Arrival:  There is a welcome desk in the foyer of the centre where children and young people are greeted and signed in.  A member of staff will escort the children and young people to their activities.

Collection:  The children will be cared for until a parent/carer/emergency contact arrives (Collection Policy).  Arrangements are made with parents/carer about the collection of each young person.  They are only released from the playscheme to individuals named on the form that is signed by the parent/carer on arrival at the playscheme.  An additional charge may be incurred should  your child be left after the session ends.  If you would like your child to arrive and/or depart on their own, please could you make sure that a parent/carer comes to the Leisure Centre in person, on the first time of attending the playscheme to sign a permission form.

Absences:  Please inform the playscheme if your child is going to be absent.

Behaviour:  If any child’s behaviour is still unsettled after a period of time, and all attempts made to accommodate them have failed, we may have to advise the parents to remove them from the playscheme.  Our concern is for the happiness and well being of the child.  He/she may be re-admitted at a later date.  If any child disrupts the playscheme, eg bullying, being rude, racist or badly behaved, and does not respond to reasonable attempts of correction (Behaviour Policy), we reserve the right to withdraw their place.

Illness:  Any child sent home from the playscheme due to ill health will only be re-admitted after reference to illness/communicable diseases list (in the Policy book).

Clothing:  Please  ensure that your child/ren are wearing suitable clothing for the activities on offer, ie jogging bottoms, shorts, t-shirt, sweatshirt and footwear must be training shoes/PE pumps.  Any child not adhering to this rule will not be allowed to participate in the playscheme due to safety factors.

Inclusion:  The playscheme actively promotes equality and anti-discriminatory practice for all young people and adults in terms of employment, training, admission, access, activities and facilities.  All staff understand and implement the Equalities and Inclusion Policies which are monitored and evaluated on an ongoing basis.

Child Protection:  The playscheme operates a Child Protection Policy and ensures that all staff working and looking after young people in the Centre are able to put these into practice.  The local authority has a duty to make enquiries, or cause enquiries to be made, where it thinks harm is being caused (Children’s Act 1989, s.47).

Health and Safety:  The playscheme promotes safety within the setting (Lost/Missing Person Policy) and ensures that precautions are taken to prevent accidents (Minor and Major Accident Policy).  Any accident is recorded and logged on the same day and the parent/carer informed on collection of their child.

Possessions:  Personal belongings should have the name of the child on and should be looked after by the child, as the playscheme staff cannot be responsible for these belongings.

Individual Considerations:  The playscheme is made aware that some children will have medical requirements and specific needs.  The playscheme has an Inclusion Policy which promotes the development of each young person that attends the playscheme.

Policies:  Please note the playscheme has a number of policies in operation in order to deliver a quality programme.  This is available for all parents/carers to read (please see playscheme supervisor).
