Disability sport

Disability sport provision is a priority for Bury Council.  Our Sports Development Unit are actively involved with local support groups, clubs, voluntary organisations and council departments.

 

The forum for disability sport and inclusive education in sport (BADIES), is due to be launched throughout Bury in the very near future. The aim of the group will be to raise the profile of disability and inclusive sport, consult with local partners and disabled people and source funding to help achieve their objectives. The forum will encourage and promote a programme of sporting events throughout Bury and ensure clear pathways for pupils leaving school or college to enjoy sport at all levels of participation.

 

Up and coming sports for Bury include Goalball and Boccia; both can be played by people with a disability or impairment alongside their non disabled peers. It is hoped to develop and promote these sports as their popularity and demand increases.
