Urban Parks

   

 

Our urban parks offer a wide range of facilities including children's play areas, multi-play ball zones, tennis courts, football pitches, crown green bowling and events hosted by the Ranger Service.

Bury Metro Council's Parks & Countryside Service are responsible for the management and development of Bury's urban parks and the service is committed to getting the Green Flag Award for all of Bury's major parks.  The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales. 

At the present time 10 of our urban parks have achieved Green Flag status which is awarded by the environmental charity The Civic Trust.  Burrs Country Park has also achieved the standard making a total of 11 Green Flags.  This puts Bury amongst the greenest places in Britain when it comes to its wonderful parks. 

 

The Green Flag success reflects Bury Metro Council's determination, in partnership with the Government, to invest in the Borough's parks as part of the Council's 'Cleaner, Safer, Greener' initiative.  Working with local people, Bury's success reflects a systematic, multi-million pound programme of improvements that includes state-of-the-art ball zones, new furniture/security measures, improved and new floral attractions as well as new landscaping, tennis courts and other features.  Bury now has at least one Green Flag park within each area board boundary in the Borough.
