Bury has just under 60 equipped play areas. These provide play equipment for children under 12, and stronger, more challenging equipment such as space nets, multi-play ball zones and skate parks for teenagers.
We have 22 multi-purpose ball zones, 4 skate parks and 24 tennis courts.
We inspect all play areas each day. We check play equipment and fixtures, and remove litter and any other waste.
If any equipment is dangerous or unsafe, we will make sure nobody can use it until we can repair it or replace it.
All new or recently refurbished play areas include dog-proof fencing and safety surfacing.
Over the last few years we have refurbished 50 play areas. All of these meet European standards.
Why we provide play areas and youth facilities
- To offer all children the opportunity to play in stimulating, creative and adventurous environment.
- To allow children to play together safely.
- To encourage children to keep active and healthy.
- To provide, as far as possible, a safe, healthy and secure play environment that is within easy reach of home.
