Friends of the Parks Groups

Over recent years a number of Friends of Parks groups have been established by the Parks & Countryside service.  The groups generally meet in March and September during the daytime.  There are group members from the local community, local police and officers of the Council.  Community groups and self-managed clubs are also involved.

There are 10 Council-led friends groups, these are:
  • Friends of Openshaw Park
  • Friends of Hoyles Park
  • Friends of Manchester Road Park
  • Friends of Whitehead Park
  • Friends of Close Park
  • Friends of Whitefield Park
  • Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom
  • Clarence Park, Walmersley
  • Towns Meadow Park, Tottington
  • St Mary's Park, Prestwich
  • Coronation Park, Radcliffe
  • Bolton Road Park, Radcliffe
There are currently 3 constituted friends groups, which are:
  • Friends of Bolton Road Park, Radcliffe
  • Friends of Close Park, Radcliffe
  • Friends of Nuttall Park, Ramsbottom
Members of the groups are involved in issues relating to the management of parks including improvements, events, funding and problem solving.

The next step for these groups will be to become a constituted community group with a Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary supported by the Council's Parks and Countryside service.  Constituted groups are able to apply for external funding which the Council is not eligible for.
