Bury Countryside Rangers

The Countryside Ranger Service was first established in 1997 and is based at Burrs Country Park, Woodhill Road, Bury.
Responsibilities
The Countryside Rangers have the following responsibilities.
- Regular patrols, this includes long distance cycle and bridleways, throughout the 1100 acres of countryside within Bury, from Holcombe Hill to Drinkwater Park, local nature reserves and other pockets of green space areas
- Day to day management of countryside sites including monitoring, habitat conservation, emergency responsive work and dealing with visitor enquiries
- Providing a varied range of national curriculum linked educational programmes relating to local habitat and communities, life cycle of plants, river studies etc. These programmes are carried out at a variety of countryside locations, green space areas and within school grounds
- A successful voluntary Ranger Service in partnership with Bolton MBC and the City of Salford, offering a full training programme, social activities and varied task days ranging from hedge laying and tree planting to helping out at events and patrolling
- Providing support to various community groups, guided walks and talks. Encouraging local and community involvement within the Borough through events, clean ups and practical work
- Providing a range of events throughout the year ranging from guided walks and cycle rides, children's events, craft activities to larger scale community fun days and clean ups
The Countryside Rangers work in partnership with Red Rose Forest, Forest Enterprise, Burrs Activity Centre, LNR (Local Nature Reserve) projects, BTCV (British Trust for Conservation Volunteers) as well as the local community to improve, conserve and promote the countryside throughout Bury.
