Computer and Internet access

The People's Network is a project which has connected all public libraries to the Internet, as part of the Government's commitment to give everyone in the UK the opportunity to get online. Lottery-funded by the New Opportunities Fund and managed by Resource, more than 4,000 library centres, including Bury MBC Libraries, have been created through the initiative.

In Bury MBC Libraries:-

  • You can use the computers and surf the Internet for free - you only pay for discs and print-outs.
  • All computers have fast Broadband Internet access and Microsoft Office applications
  • You can print in colour or black & white
  • Several libraries have scanners
  • You can book free taster sessions with qualified trainers - and some libraries even have regular computer classes for beginners  We also provide access to certified courses e.g. ECDL
  • You can  save your work to floppy discs and USB memory keys
  • There's easy access to the computers - most libraries have one height adjustable desk and all have large keyboards and trackballs/joy sticks. Each of these computers has screen magnification and screen reading software
  • Staff can help you use the computers if you are a beginner

As we don't charge for use of the computers they can get busy, we therefore advise people to book in advance by contacting their local library.
