The Environment Information Point forms part of Reference & Information Services at Bury Library.
Resources available include:
Directories
Do you need to find out about organisations involved in the Environment Industry? Then there are several sources, including:
- Environment Industry Yearbook - Has sections on government contacts, local authority contacts and also a buyers guide.
- World Directory of Environment Organisations - Begins with a section on global environmental issues and follows with sections on organisations established to address those issues.
- Working with the Environment - A career-oriented book which contains useful addresses, whether you're considering a career in the environment industry, or not.
- The Little Green Book of Organisations, Advice and Expertise to Support Environemental Action in the Mersey Basin Campaign Area - includes contact details for groups active throughout the North West region.
Encyclopedias
- The Encyclopedia of the Environment - A thorough guide to environmental concepts.
- Conservation and Environmentalism: An Encyclopedia - An excellent guide to current environmental ideas.
Dictionaries
- The Environmental Dictionary - A comprehensive guide to environmental terminology.
Atlases
There are several standard atlases adjacent to the Environmental Information Point, in the library, but within the EIP there is:
- The Gaia Atlas of Planet Manegement - It uses text, images and maps to convey the importance of sustainable development for the whole planet.
Statistics
- Digest of Environmental Statistics - We hold the last printed copy of this in the EIP and it is still a very useful resource for long term trends, but the latest version, along with other DEFRA statistics, is only available on the Internet at:
http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/statistics/index.htm.
Magazines
We subscribe to the following magazines:
- Earth Matters
- Energy & Environment Management
- Environment & Health news
- Green Futures
Leaflets
We collect and display leaflets advertising the work of local and national environmental organisations, both governmental and non-governmental.
Notice Board
A small notice board forms part of the EIP. Here, local environmental groups are invited to promote forthcoming events.
