Finding information

Many people are excited about the Internet and the information that it holds. And rightly so; it is a very useful resource. We too recognise its usefullness and have produced our own Internet guides. However, sometimes the information our customers need is not available on the Internet, or, it is quicker or easier to access it in another format. We hold information in many formats including books, magazines, maps, microfilm and fiche as well as electronic resources.

As for electronic resources; a new borough-wide CD-ROM network means that resources such as the 1881 Census, historical maps, legal information for individuals and businesses and information on work, training and educational opportunities can be delivered to most libraries.

The library service also subscribes to a number of online, web-based, information services too, all of which can be accessed at all libraries and two which you can even access from home. Online resources include the business information databases FAME (Financial Analysis Made Easy), the newspaper and magazine database NewsUK, and Oxford English Dictionary.  NewsUK and the Oxford English Dictionary, amongst others, can both be accessed in all libraries but also from home, school, college or office via pages on our website at Newspapers and magazines online and Online library services page with your library card number.

Don't forget, you can also access the library catalogue online where you can view stock, renew items and reserve items. You can also suggest new titles.
