Homework clubs

Homework clubs provide a specific area in the library where you can do your homework in groups or by yourself. Homework clubs offer a pleasant and informal environment in which to do all your schoolwork – whether sitting your SATs, getting to grips with GCSEs or continuing your classwork.

All homework clubs offer a trained member of staff to help you with your study or simply to help you find the information you need. You will have free access to word processing, the CD ROM network (in branch libraries), CD ROMs (in outreach libraries) and the Internet.

Each homework club has a specially selected collection of books that support all National Curriculum subjects, exam revision books, past exam papers for GCSE and SATs (Key Stages 1, 2 & 3). Most books are available for lending although you must be a member of Bury Libraries to borrow them.

Homework clubs also offer other social activities that you can get involved in. Remember all homework clubs are different and it is the members who create the unique atmosphere of each club. A homework club is what you make it.

All we ask is that you sign your name in a book each time you attend the homework club. You don't even have to join the library, although you will get more out of homework clubs if you do.

Schools Library Service

Bury's Schools Library service provides a wide range of valuable services for Primary, Secondary and Specials Schools in Bury. The service ensures a cost-effective way of satisfying the ever-changing needs of the National Curriculum. The Schools' Library Service supports and enhances the educational and social development of the children of Bury through the provision of quality information services and resources. Available for teachers to borrow are project loans which include a collection of books and AV material tailored to individual teacher requirements, interests and age levels. Fiction pool provide a collection of specially selected material (fiction and poetry from which you may choose to satisfy your class's requirements).

The Schools' Library Service also offers centralised book purchase and visits to library suppliers can be arranged at a time that suits the teachers needs. Help and advice on improving your school library and help with what to and borrow is also available.

This is a new and exciting time for the Schools Library Service. A new marketing strategy is currently being developed for all schools to ensure that they are fully aware of the excellent resources for teaching staff and pupils.

Reading is a skill and source of life enrichment that must be encouraged from birth. We believe that the Schools' Library Service, working in partnership with school, is the optimum means of supporting reading for information and pleasure to stimulate a love of books for life.
