What do Bury Learning Libraries offer?
We deliver computer-based flexible learning in a wide variety of topics.
What is computer based learning?
Computer based learning means that your course is delivered to you via a computer. This could mean that your course is delivered via the Internet, or in some cases on a CD-ROM. With computer based learning there is no direct teaching between your tutor and yourself, your course is taught to you on the computer.
Where would I do my learning?
Computer based learning gives you the flexibility to access your course wherever you have access to a computer (basic PC requirements are available on request). You may choose to use our excellent computer facilities in our learning centres based at Prestwich and Tottington Libraries, or you may choose to work at home or even at work.
When would I do my learning?
You have the flexibility to access your course when ever and how often suits you. Our opening hours cover some evenings and weekends for added flexibility, however if you work from home you could access your course at 2am if you wanted!
What Courses do you offer?
We have hundreds of courses to choose from, these include:
• Computers for Beginners
• Intermediate Computer Courses covering all of the major Microsoft applications, e.g. Word and Excel
• Computer Qualifications – ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
• Business and Management Courses
• Personal Interest Courses, e.g. Genealogy

Would I still have a tutor?
All of our learners have access to one to one assistance as and when you need it from our friendly centre staff who are there to answer any questions you may have about your course.
How do I enrol?
You can enrol on any of our courses at any time; we do not have set times for enrolment.
How much do courses cost?
Prices vary depending on which course you choose, prices start from £10. A price list is available please contact the centre for more information.
Are discounts available?
Learners aged 50 + are entitled to free courses up to the cost of £30. Please ask a member of staff for details.
