This Authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
The Council is committed to Equality and Diversity in employment and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
Bury Council supports people who want to balance their life and work.
All disabled candidates who meet the essential job-related criteria will be guaranteed an interview. Appointment will be on merit.
On-line applications
The speed of making an application on- line will be dependent on your internet connection, browser and firewall settings. It is advisable that areas of the Application Form that can take time to complete such as the relevant skills and experience section should be completed in any text editor such as Microsoft Word or Notepad and then cut and paste in to the relevant section to save time and avoid problems with losing your connection to our server or your internet provider. Details copied and pasted from word into the on-line application form must be in plain text (no colours, bullet points etc). Anything other than plain text may not be recognised by word and may not show as you intended when you submit your form.
When completing your on-line form you will be able to save it part way through and return to it later, but it must still be completed and submitted before 12 noon of the closing date. Only click the submit button when your form is completed. You will be timed out of the on-line aplication form after 3 hours and any information entered will be lost unless previously saved, so please ensure that you complete/save the form within the timescale.
If for any reason you are unable to complete an on-line application form and would like a word version of the application form to complete and return by email, please email Recruitment&ContractsTeam@bury.gov.uk providing details of the job title and reference number.
Completed application forms should be submitted to the return address by 12 noon on the closing date.
You will be unable to access the job description and person specification online for the post you are applying for after the closing date. You are, therefore, advised to save or print a copy of these documents for your records.
You must complete an application form for each job you are applying for. We will not accept CV's alone, only in support of an application form.

Political restrictions
Some posts in the Council are politically restricted under the Local Government & Housing Act. With effect from 12 January 2010 politically restricted posts fall into two categories, specified posts, which have no right of appeal and sensitive posts, where there is some scope for appeal on the grounds that the Council has wrongly applied the criteria.
Where a political restriction is applied, this may mean that you may not be permitted, or may be restricted, in your political interests or associations.
You are therefore prevented from having any active political role either in or outside the workplace. You will not be able to stand for or hold elected office as:
- local councillor;
- MP;
- MEP;
- Member of the Welsh Assembly;
- Members of the Scottish Parliament.
You are also restricted from:
- canvassing on behalf of a political party or a person who is or seeks to be a candidate;
- speaking to the public at large or publishing any written or artistic work that could give the impression that you are advocating support for a political party.
The cumulative effect of these restrictions is to limit you to bare membership of political parties, with no active participation within the party permitted.
If the post you are applying for is politically restricted this will be notified to you during the application process.
Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006
It is a criminal offence to employ a person who is subject to immigration control, unless they have documentation which permits them to work in the UK. You should therefore be aware that we will make checks to ensure that you are eligible to work in the UK.
