The Urban Renewal service is responsible for matters concerning private housing within Bury. Private housing means houses, which are not owned by the Council or by a Housing Association.
About private housing services in Bury
The main functions of the service are to:

improve the overall environment but with particular emphasis on private sector housing through area based regeneration initiatives, as well as individual improvements in selected areas within the Borough;
-
raise and maintain standards in the private rented sector by supporting tenants who are not receiving support from their landlord and those that may be vulnerable and potentially be at risk of poor management standards and very poor living conditions;

maintain standards in the private rented sector by working with landlords who manage and maintain their properties to a good standard;
-
undertake inspections of properties to ensure they meet a standard to support an individual requiring entry into the United Kingdom;
-
bring long-term empty properties back into use via a variety of informal and formal mechanisms;
-
assist householders to improve the condition of their property by offering advice and financial assistance in certain circumstances;

assist householders with a disability who need adaptations to help them remain independent in their home;
-
provide advice and information on energy efficiency measures and grants and schemes to make the cost of energy efficiency improvements more affordable.

provide an excellent service and understand the needs of service users and make improvements to the service through consultation and feedback on satisfaction
