Housing co-operatives
We have one Housing Co-operative in the borough. Springs Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) manage the council housing located on the Springs estate in Fishpool, Bury.

Housing associations
There are a number of housing associations who operate in the borough of Bury, providing homes at a reasonable rent. Their tenants enjoy similar rights to those of Council tenants; the housing associations will tell you what those rights are.
We have a nomination agreement with all housing associations that have properties in the borough of Bury. We have nomination rights to 50% of all housing association vacancies. Any applicant registered on our Housing Register, who has expressed an interest, will be nominated to housing association vacancies if they have sufficient priority on the housing register. Alternatively, you may also apply direct to a housing association.

The Housing Association, also known as a Registered Social Landlord (RSL), has properties located throughout the borough in Ramsbottom, Tottington, Bury, Radcliffe, Whitefield and Prestwich.

Bury's Nomination Agreement
The nominations agreement is a legal agreement with all the associations operating in the borough.
The agreement reflects the points contained in the guidance paper, ‘Effective Co-Operation in Tackling Homelessness: Nomination Agreements and Exclusions, issued jointly by the Communities and Local Government (CLG), Housing Corporation, the National Housing Federation, and the Local Government Association in November 2004. The agreement reinstates the Housing Corporation Guidance that associations should provide 50% or more of their vacant properties for nomination.
Bury Council’s Housing Association Liaison Group
The Housing Association Liaison Group (HALG) was re-established in May 2007 following changes to Bury's Nomination Agreement. The group has representatives from all the associations operating in the borough. Meetings are held four times a year.
