Standards for privately rented property

Are you living in a privately rented property?

If so, please read this as it may apply to you!

The law has changed concerning large houses where people who are not related live together and share facilities (like kitchens and/or bathrooms); certain houses in this category may need to be licensed by us.

As of April 2006 the law requires that all properties which are three floors or more in height (and this can include properties which have shops, offices, occupying one or more floors), have five or more people who do not live in one household (for example, usually not related to each other) and share some facility, such as kitchens, common rooms, bathrooms, and are not owned by a Housing Association or Trust (also known as a Registered Social Landlord or RSL) must be licensed by us.

If you are unsure whether the property where you live needs to be licensed then please contact us as follows.
