Do you want to make any improvements to your home? Do you want to install a shower or your own kitchen for example?
Your Tenancy Agreement gives you the legal right to make improvements such as these, but you need us to give you permission first.
We do welcome you making your own improvements and we will only say 'no' to you if we have a good reason for doing so. We may refuse you permission if the work wasn't safe or if it would have a negative effect on your neighbours.
To get our agreement
Please print out and send us the application form 'Replacement of existing fittings or enhancement of dwelling by the tenant'.
You need to send us this form at least 35 days before you want to start the work.
We will look at your application and let you know if we can give you permission to do the work you have asked for. We may have to visit you at home, depending on what you are asking to do.
If we return the form to you giving you permission to do the work then you can go ahead and get started.
If we decide that you cannot do the work we will give you a reason – You must no go ahead with the alteration to your home - we may make you change it all back. You will also be breaking your tenancy agreement and we may take legal action against you.
If you want to do the following other jobs to your home, then you will need to print and fill in one of the following forms and return to Bury Housing Services, Town Hall, 5 Knowsley Street, Bury, BL9 0AF.
