About Bury Home Options and choice-based lettings
Bury Home Options is the name of our choice-based lettings scheme.
Choice-based lettings replaces the traditional way of allocating housing when housing officers matched applicants who have priority on the waiting list to available vacancies.
Choice-based lettings allows applicants for council housing (and existing tenants seeking a move) to apply for available vacancies.
Applicants can see the full range of available properties:
- on the Bury Home Options website;
- at the Housing reception, Bury Town Hall, Knowsley Street, Bury, BL9 0AF;
- at Six Town Housing, Point Blue, Moor Street, Bury, BL9 5AQ;
- at local libraries; and
- at offices and agencies throughout the borough.

How to apply for a property
You must be registered on our waiting list to express an interest.
Once you are registered, you can express an interest in any of the properties that are suitable for you. For example:
- a single person will not be considered for a 3 bedroom house; and
- a large family will not be considered for a property that would make them overcrowded.
Properties will be let to applicants who apply and have the highest priority need. Adapted properties are let to applicants who apply, require the adaptations and have the highest priority.
Bury Home Options properties are advertised for one week only - each Wednesday with a closing date and time of 5pm the following Tuesday.
Go to the how to express an interest page to find out what to do once you have seen a property you are interested in.
