Our site contains a wealth of information and services at your finger tips. There is so much to offer that surfing around our thousands of pages may seem daunting and you may find it difficult to locate what you want. To help with this we have organised the website to correspond as closely as we can to a nationally agreed local government category list. We have used this list to structure our A-Z search feature and map out the many pages of the website. This list is also used with many other local authority sites allowing both local residents and visitors from across the country and world to be able to access and explore public services much more easily.
To assist you as much as possible when using our website we have provided a range of helpful features and tools, these include:
Home: The visitor can return to the home page from any page on the web site by clicking on the “Bury Metro logo” in the top left or the "Home" on the breadcrumb trail located under the main category headings.
Feedback: This feature is available to allow all our visitors to feed back any facilities they would like to see or any difficulties that they have encountered when using the website.
Accessibility: These are internationally recognised standards that we are striving to achieve. You may view these standards by clicking on the Accessibility link in the top right of the screen above the Search.
Search: This feature will help you to locate the information or service that you are interested in. By entering a key word in the search box this feature will identify all related pages and display these in order of most suited.
Sitemap: This feature provides users with an overall bird’s eye view of the various pages that make up the Bury MBC website. The Sitemap feature is located just under the search feature and also at the bottom left hand side of the webpage.
A to Z: The A-Z Search is based upon the Local Government Category List. It is displayed in alphabetical order. Look under "R" for Recycling, for instance. This is located on the top right of the screen under the "Search" facility.
Service Menu: This allows you to navigate through the site using the Local Government Categories. The service menu is displayed just below the main banner and extends across the main homepage. It displays the top level category headings of the local Government Category List. The service menu is available in the same location throughout web site.
Breadcrumb trail: The breadcrumb trail is located below the service menu. It helps you to identify which part of the website you are in. It will read for example, “Home> Business> Credit Licences. Clicking on “Business” would return you to the Business main menu. Clicking on “Home” would return you to the Homepage.
Printer Friendly pages: This can be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of most of our pages and allows you to print only the information showing without any of the detail graphics. This feature is not available on the home page.
Translate: Brief descriptions about our services are provided in Arabic, French, Farsi, Urdu and Chinese. Unfortunately our website currently has very limited translation services, but we are investigating new software to be able to offer a much broader translation service.
External Links: Our website has been specifically developed to offer our customers as greater choice in public service as possible. We have tried to create as many related links as possible connecting you to other useful sites. These include other public services offered by other government departments, services offered by voluntary and community organisations and through the business sector.
Contact Us: If you do feel you need to contact the Council then this feature has been provided. It provides you with many channels to get in contact with Bury MBC service departments.
Emergency Services: This provides you with contact numbers that may be required in an emergency.
Policing & Public Safety: This covers all aspects of community safety. It is located below the Emergency Services on the right of the website.
Town Guides & Maps: This map is constructed of the towns that make up the borough of Bury. It is located on the right hand column of the main homepage and throughout the website. The town web pages have been introduced to help raise the profile of our local townships, promoting events, places to visit or of historical interest, local businesses, shopping and local town news. The town pages also provide visitors with local maps and directions for key buildings. Each town webpage can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate geographic area on the bury map or by clicking on the name of the town on the right of the map.
Local Area Partnerships: We have also provided a useful map to show where our Area Boards are located across Bury. Each of these Local Area Partnership pages provides useful information about the governance of an area, including detail about local public meetings, council meetings, representative councillors and your local MP's. The map boundaries represent the geographic areas covered by each of the six Local Area Partnerships for the borough. Local Area Partnership is made up of a number of Wards.
Where is Bury? This feature has been included to show where Bury is geographically located at a glance when looking at the British Isles. On clicking on the “Where is Bury” we have included a useful map showing the motorway network surrounding Bury.
Neighbouring Authorities: This provides links to all of our neighbouring authorities. It is located on the right of the website.
What Can I Do Online: This feature provides access to a range of different services that can be carried out whilst on the Internet. We are continually developing our online service to offer you much greater choice 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. All online services currently provided by Bury MBC can be accessed directly from the home page or on the rest of the web site via the “Online Services” button of the left of the web page.
Key Web Pages: To help access information and services more easily we have set up a number of key web pages. These include “Your Council”, “Bury Life”, “Life Events”, “Events”, “Vulnerable People” and “Children and Young People”. By creating these pages we have been able to bring together on one web page all relevant related information and services offered throughout the website. These key pages are located in the centre of the page on the Homepage and on the left hand side throughout the rest of the website. Some brief information is provided to describe what content is available from each of these key web pages:
